THE EUROPEAN UNION’S INITIATIVES DIRECTED TOWARDS HELPING STREET CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD

Abstract: The aim of the article is to present various initiatives undertaken by the European Union to help street children all over the world. The examples from selected countries demonstrate its activities in two dimensions: firstly, the provision of financial aid to local streetworking programmes and, secondly, cooperation with internal European Union structures, such as European Network on Street Children Worldwide (ENSCW) or the European Federation for Street Children (EFSC). Alongside positive observation, the article also offers critical comments regarding the involvement of the EU in the process of social reintegration of street children, including the lack of monitoring of the phenomenon of street children in the EU member states and other regions of the world (an example from Poland). This lack hinders the EU full involvement into creating projects offering help to street children and their families. The article suggests several solutions to the problem in question: 1) continuous monitoring of the phenomenon of street children, 2) implementing a greater number of reintegration programmes within the EU, 3) introducing suitable procedures of financing local programmes, and 4) introducing legal adjustments regulating street-working as a profession in the EU.

FAMILY situation of adhd students

Abstract: It is assumed that the situation of families with ADHD children is not substantially different from the situation of families with typically developed children. This conclusion is most often drawn on the basis of a clinical diagnosis. There is no extensive comparative research of groups of families which would take into account the influence of socioeconomic and educational factors on the development of ADHD. It is expected that such factors as the composition of the family, the parents’ level of education, their employment, number of persons in the household (also the number of children) determine the quality of atmosphere in the family, the degree of satisfying the biological and psychological needs and the possibilities of care and education. The parents’ involvement in the care and education of their children, the reward and punishment system and the children’s everyday duties are very important.

Apart from the findings to date included in pedagogical and psychological literature, the article also takes into account the results of the empirical research conducted in middle and secondary schools of the Zamojszczyzna region. This research has confirmed the risk of nicotine addiction in a large number of children and young people. Fighting this addiction is very difficult, so emphasis should be put on prevention, and the role of parents, schools, youth organisations, and the mass media is very important.
