PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND SOME OF ITS DETERMINANTS IN THE SENIORS POPULATION OF PODKARPACKIE VOIVODESHIP
Background. Progressive socio-economic changes, development of medical science, contribute to the prolongation of human life causing steady increasing the percentage of elderly people. Regular physical activity is one of the means that can sustain the functional independence of older people. The aim of this research was an attempt to evaluate the level of physical activity and some of its determinants in the population of seniors.
Material and method. We have analysed results of diagnostic survey in group 53 seniors at the age of 65-80, living in the urban area of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The research tool was an International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) in short form. Student’s t test for independent samples or alternatively, the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U tests were used for the analysis.
Results. Average week’s energy expenditure of intensive physical activity in seniors with proper body weight was significantly higher in comparison to subject with overweight or obesity (p = 0,022). There were not statistically significant differences in relation to adopted the category of physical efforts and time spent on sitting between groups signed due to age, sex and the educaction level.
Conclusions. The main differentiating factor towards the weekly energy expenditure of the intensive physical activities is the body composition. This points to the need for implementation of educational programs for seniors about the health consequences of obesity, as well as ways strategies of its preventing. These measure can contribute to maintain the optimal — in relation to age — level of functional capacity and thus improve quality of life elderly people.

Aim. The assesment of the influence of some factors on functional limitations for people of advanced age rehabilitated in Zamojska Klinika Rehabilitacji.
Results. The analises illustrated more functional limitations in the case of elderly people living in the country (5,9±2,4) than in cities (4,7±2,6) (p = 0,003). The age of examined people also effected the number of gained points from questionnaire VES-13 vitally (p < 0,001). The results from questionnaire VES-13 examined, rehabilitated in the view of spine-pain set or a degenerative illness of hip and knee joints weren’t vitally different from the results of examined, rehabilitated because of other complaints.
Conclusions. Limitations of functioning patients in Zamojska Klinika Rehabilitacji of advanced age, rehabilitated because of spine-pain set or a degenerative illness of hip and knee joints depend on the age and place of residence, but it does not depend on the gender and rehabilitated place. CERVICAL SPINE DISORDERS IN PHYSIOTHERAPIST’S PRACTICE
Spinal Pain Syndrome is not a disease itself, but rather a symptom accompanying many diseases, which precise etiology is often unknown — it is accompanied by pain, stiffness, limited mobility and neurological syndromes. Pathomechanism is multifactorial. Differential diagnosis of cervical pain is an extremely difficult process. It requires physical and visual examination. Functional examination should begin with an interview with the patient and focus on collecting as much information as possible about the symptoms. The right treatment is determinated by accurate diagnosis. Desirable therapeutic effects can be achieved thanks to holistic medicine and interdisciplinary cooperation of specialists in various fields. However, to check this effect, examinations should be more precise and there should be more patients, also taking into account long-term effects of therapy, durability of functional improvement and type of therapeutic treatment.
